GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION

Often, we are asked to provide information about our treatment program and what the expectations are for clients entering our facility.  Below is a summary that will, hopefully, give information to aid in making the appropriate decision and placement for your client.

IMPORTANT CHANGE OF POLICY;  Effective September 1, 2005, all incoming residents will be charged $100 for program materials.  This charge, though not sufficient to cover all materials provided to the resident while in treatment, will help cover the cost of workbooks, handouts, bracelets, badges, books, etc.  This charge will be entered into the resident’s financial account when he/she checks in, and any money sent to the resident will be used to pay off this charge until it is paid in full.  Please inform potential residents of this change in CTTC policy.

Central Texas Treatment Center is an intensive residential substance abuse treatment center for probationers who have committed felonies and have alcohol and/or drug abuse problems.  This facility has been in operation in Georgetown, Texas since 1990 and recently moved to a larger facility in Granger, Texas, approximately 17 miles from the original location.  It is a co-ed program serving men and women of all ethnic groups from all over the state.  Our admissions policy excludes those people with Title V violations, recent assaultive histories and recent histories of suicide and serious mental illness/retardation.  We take clients age 17 to 70.  Our intake coordinator, Diane Dossett will be glad to discuss admissions with you.

It’s All About CHANGE!
This court-ordered treatment program facilitates change in the client and encourages a lifestyle free from chemical dependency and criminal conduct.  The program is cognitive based.  We believe that our thoughts control our behavior.  All elements of the program help clients focus on how their thoughts affect their feelings, and their behavior.  The program has the client pay close attention to risk thoughts that lead to risky behaviors.  They explore relapse situations, how to understand the feelings of others, how to respond to anger, and how to resolve problems.  They are encouraged to develop new thinking that will lead to new behaviors.  The objective of the program is for the client to make much needed personal changes in their lives.

Lots of classes and sessions.
In the center, the client will have the opportunity to become engaged in a vast number of classes and programs directed by well trained treatment team members.  The primary courses taught in the program are Thinking For a Change, Truthoughts, Choice Theory and Moral Reconation Therapy, all of which are well researched and have been proven to reduce recidivism among offenders.   CTTC is self-paced.  Promotion and discharge criteria consist of a variety of cognitive and behavioral objectives that indicate the client has developed certain skills and has internalized new thought processes.  The average length of stay is around 5 to 6 months.

Diversity
Clients receive many hours of group and individual sessions with highly skilled counselors, Probation Officers, and Residential Monitoring staff each week.  There are specialized groups that focus on chemical dependency, relapse prevention, criminal thinking, making effective life choices, and spirituality.  Twelve Step support groups are offered every day at the Center. Wellness classes which target physical fitness, relaxation, assertiveness, pain management and meditation are also offered.  All classes are guided by experienced staff who have daily contact with the clients.

Families Are Important
Family members and friends who are supportive of the client’s recovery meet with Center staff early in the treatment process.  During these orientation sessions loved ones learn what the client is being taught, what to expect while the client is in treatment, and important information about Center protocol.  Counselors may schedule counseling sessions with individual families during the treatment process.  Family contact is further encouraged through our visitation and Off-Campus pass program.  Should family emergencies arise, residential probation officers work with clients to provide visits or other means of working through the problem.

Education
Clients in need of a GED have an opportunity to work on their educational goals through Project Better Chance.  Project Better Chance personnel assess each client when they enter the program and encourage the client to obtain their GED while in the program. An on campus GED instructor provides individualized instruction in all aspects of the GED.  Many clients complete their GED while residing at the Center.

Assessments
Upon entering the program, each client is given a battery of assessments that allow the specialists to review and learn more specific information on each client, including problem behaviors, personality traits, strengths and weaknesses.  In addition to these “question and answer” tests, treatment team members conduct face to face interviews with each incoming client to ascertain their special needs and life circumstances.  Individualized treatment plans are developed based on these assessments.  As clients progress through the program, their cases are reviewed regularly by the treatment team who recommend additional referrals, classes, sessions or homework.   When problem situations arise, appropriate action is taken to give the client added structure and support.

The 5 Agreements
Each client is asked to commit to five agreements set forth by the center.  They are: NO using drugs/alcohol or bringing contraband into the Center, NO violent behavior, NO getting into  sexual relationships, NO destruction of property, and NO absconding.   These agreements are set in place for the safety and security of the facility -  staff and residents.

In 2004, CTTC was ranked the number one substance abuse treatment program by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Community Justice Assistance Division.  In that same year, the Texas Corrections Association awarded the Center with its Exemplary Program Award.  CTTC enjoys a reputation for effective, compassionate cognitive treatment that works for 80% or more of the people who participate in it.  Being treated at CTTC is a coveted privilege.

Treatment at CTTC has been noted by many ex-residents as a life-changing experience.  Often, ex-residents return to the center and chair AA and NA meetings, in order to give back to the community part of what was given to them.

Center staff supports and encourages the client to be successful in the journey of recovery.  We all believe, from the bottom of our hearts, that people can change.
