Departmental Collections

The department collected over $4.2 million in court ordered fees and fines in fiscal year ’00, representing a 2% increase from FY ’99. Collections for felony court costs increased by 14% and misdemeanor court costs collected decreased by 3% from the previous year. Felony fines collected increased by 23% while misdemeanor fines collected decreased by 6%. Supervision fees hit a plateau from the previous years. Pre-trial program and supervision fees decreased by 27% from fiscal year ’99.

Supervision, pre-trial, urinalysis and program fees are assessed by the Courts, to reduce the cost of community supervision to the taxpayer, and to insure an offender pays for at least a portion of the cost of supervision. Fines and deferment fees are paid to the Williamson County General fund to offset the county's expenses, and restitution is paid to the victims to help offset any losses caused by the crimes. Court appointed attorney fees are collected and returned to Williamson County, in the total amount originally paid to the offender's court ordered appointed attorney.

Deferment fees and restitution fees collected have shown steady increases since their introduction. Restitution fees collected and returned to victims increased by 5% from fiscal year ’99. The following table compares collections for fiscal years ’99 - ’00:
